cannabis 101

Cannabis is a plant that our ancestors have used as a medicinal plant for thousands of years, attributing analgesic, anti-inflammatory, relaxing and psychotropic properties, which is why it is still used throughout the world.

Today we know that these properties are due to the phytocannabinoids that interact with our endocannabinoid system, mainly by compounds known as CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). They are the cannabinoids with the greatest presence in the cannabis plant, however, there can be more than 100 different types of cannabinoids in the plant.

CBD & THC

  • One of the more than 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, this compound is similar to the endocannabinoids produced by the body itself, it does not produce any psychotropic effect. Its most outstanding properties are:

    • Anticonvulsant

    • Anti-inflammatory

    • Muscle relaxant

    • Mood improvement

These properties help treat conditions such as epilepsy, muscle tension, pain caused by inflammation, stress, anxiety, and it helps to maintain a better rest after falling asleep, among others.

  • This is another one of the more than 100 phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, compared to CBD, it has other properties and is responsible for the cannabis plant being so popular, but stigmatized.

This compound has analgesic properties, generates a feeling of drowsiness, hyperphagia (increases appetite) and produces a psychotropic effect, which can present itself as time distortion, good humor and a feeling of relaxation or body heaviness.

When it is a high dose for a first-time person, the effects can be more pronounced and being a new experience can lead to a feeling of alertness or even sinus tachycardia.

The properties offered by THC can help to treat mainly pain, insomnia and lack of appetite.

The only way to take advantage of THC without its psychotropic effect is to use it topically.
